“A tax on Big Tech doesn’t concern me.” Not so fast: on 30 October 2026, MPs voted a tax of €0.055 per gigabyte of data sent to French internet users — targeting Netflix, YouTube, Google… but which could be passed on to prices.

€0.055/GB the “per-gigabyte tax” adopted by the French National Assembly on 30 October 2026 (a Socialist amendment): 5.5 cents per GB of data sent to French internet users. Hoped-for yield: ~€10bn. Not yet in force.
